When speaking of her starring roles in the upcoming movies, ‘The Last Duane’ and ‘The Tell Tale Heart,’ Rose McGowan is funny and honest, and when speaking of her directorial debut, she is positively exuberant. But when speaking of things not work related, one can’t help but feel her guard come up.

FAULT: I want to talk about the two movies you have coming out in 2014: The Last Duane and The Tell Tale Heart; with the economy the way it is, let’s say you have only ten bucks, which do you see? 

ROSE: Probably The Last Duane. I like westerns and I liked the people involved. I kinda hope the other stays on the shelf. I felt a little duped by Tell Tale. Blinded by Poe, as it were. Sometimes you think people have a strong vision, and it’s often not the case. Very hard to tell beforehand. Sucks discovering it.

Have you ever done a movie you later didn’t like?
Tell Tale. And there are more where that came from. It’s very hard to make a film that comes together on all levels. It’s like painting with 100 paintbrushes that are held by individual egos. Also, I’ve worked with some not so nice people. Such a drag. If I have a troubling experience, I won’t watch the product.

I really want to see the short film you directed, Dawn. What made you want to direct this story? 

I have my own vision, and it’s a strong one. I want to tell my own stories, not just interpret someone else’s. I feel like I’ve finally found the right job and it’s awesome. Getting into Sundance as a director, (over 8,100 submitted, 12 were chosen for narrative competition) is the high point of my career. By far. To be at Sundance representing myself is huge.

Is directing the future?
That is an unequivocal yes.

Quite a lot is made of your love life. I was wondering how it feels to have your personal life reported on.
Well, I feel it’s lazy when “journalists” dredge up past relationships. I also don’t need to explain myself or my choices to anyone. I can understand interest in current ones, but the past is the past. I think less of the writers who ask, they disappoint me with the banality of their questions. You at least asked it in a more interesting way.

Another spin on the classic and truly twisted Edgar Allan Poe tale The Tell Tale Heart will be causing a stir at this year's Cannes Film Market, and we have the trailer and sales art for you right here. Dig it!

Darclight Films, the edgy genre-driven label of Arclight Films, announces the acquisition and release of first-look footage of John La Tier’s inspired directorial debut THE TELL TALE HEART starring Rose McGowan (GRINDHOUSE, TVs "CHARMED," JAWBREAKER, SCREAM), Peter Bogdanovich ("THE SOPRANOS," HUMBOLDT COUNTY, FESTIVAL IN CANNES, TVs "THE SIMPSONS") and Patrick John Flueger (FOOTLOOSE, BROTHERS, TVs "THE 4400"). Based on the classic short story of the same name penned by Edgar Allan Poe, America’s first master of horror over 150 years ago, La Tier, who also co-wrote the script, transplants the gloomy Gothic story into vibrant and enchanting modern day New Orleans. Darclight Films will be sharing never-before-seen footage in Cannes.

THE TELL TALE HEART remains true to the original insofar as the story's protagonist is tormented by the still-beating heart of the old vulture-eyed man he murdered and buried beneath the floorboards of his residence. The film grows the tale and expands the character's troubled mindscape to include a hauntingly romantic arc illuminated by McGowan. The filmmakers were adamant about maintaining a fervent connection to the classic and world-renowned tale's literary roots.

“It's arguably the seed of the entire genre,” said La Tier, who was compelled to resurrect Poe's story albeit with a twist. Certainly Poe created a unique and starkly terrifying approach to horror fiction. He placed his readers in the minds of his mad characters and so had a way of leaving his readers feeling insane themselves. “The fear of the characters became the fear of the readers. I wanted to remain true to that while broadening the character's psyche through the introduction of a female element to hint at the possibility of redemption, something entirely missing in Poe's sublime version,” stated La Tier.

Moving the location of THE TELL TALE HEART to New Orleans was a stroke of inspired creativity. “I think the city is definitely a character,” said McGowan. “If there was going to be a city with a heartbeat under its floorboards, New Orleans is it.”

“The director, John La Tier, did a magnificent job of encapsulating the essence of Poe's classic story with a modern surprise while capturing the soul of one of the most unique cities in the world,” according to Executive Producer, Joey Tufaro.

Can't be denied, Rose McGowan is officially new blonde babe as she debuted her hair while visiting a hair salon on December 4! Certainly, she opens up the reason why she locks that light color on her hair.

Actually, the actress dyes her brunette hair because of her inspiration. “I wanted to look like Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface,” said McGowan to the photographs while leaving the Salon Benjamin in West Hollywood on Wednesday.

The Charmed actress quickly tweeted a photo on her twitter after getting compliments from photographers. “New hair. Wanted to be Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface,” McGowan simply tweeted it with a photo revealing her new blonde hair.

The star of next movie releases, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Last Duane, wore a simple black sweater and tank top accompanied with black boots and patterned pants. Rose kept her eyes with a pair of aviator sunglasses as she leaves the salon on December 5.

While, in afternoon, Rose didn't want the public to miss her Christmas spirit. She got home and then went out and about in Los Angeles, CA in a red patterned sweater. She joyfully showed her spirit to welcome the holiday and Christmas.

Being the lovable actress, Rose McGowan, best known for breakthrough role in Scream, and next in the hit TV show Charmed, and continued for movies like Grindhouse, and recently Conan the Barbarian, has a lot of gay pride. The actress claims that she even makes gay friends seem not as gay when she's around and campaigned against Prop 8. which sought to ban same sex marriage in California.

For next, Rose will star in horror movie based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story, entitled The Tell-Tale Heart. But, Rose still kept silent about her mysterious new TV project on ABC.

McGowan fortunately granted to do an interview with Watermark before her next public appearance at Spooky Empire - The Ultimate Horror Weekend in Orlando from 27-28 October, 2012.

Tell me about what you’ll be doing at Spooky Empire in Orlando this weekend. 
I’ll be there promoting Scream, Charmed, and Grindhouse.

Is this your first time doing one of these? 
Yes. It’s fun to be able to meet people one on one. Generally, you’re kept back from people, so this will be a completely different experience to see the people that are your fans. It’s special. 

I have to warn you though; you’re going to encounter quite a few gay nerds. 
That’s ok. They’re my favorite! If you have to be a nerd, you might as well be gay. It’ll just make me happier. 

With roles in great gay cult hits like Jawbreaker, Scream and Charmed, it’s no surprise you built a large gay fan base. You definitively seem to shine in those venomous/vixen roles. Gays love a good vixen. 
[Those roles] come pretty easy to me. It’s funny; if you know me, I’m actually pretty easy-going and laid-back. I watch a lot of classic films and those roles really inspire me. Actresses like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford have played some amazingly evil people. Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actually. I’ve kind of patterned my characters by their performances. I wouldn’t say I try to copy them - but try to pay homage. Those actresses never had to say the lines I have, that’s for sure. 

When do you think you established your gay iconic status? 
In my mind, it was probably when I was little and I would protect the gays from the bullies at school. When I was 13, I was a runaway and taken in by a drag queen in Portland, Oregon. I used to go to gay nightclubs and dance the night away. So, it’s pretty much been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. I never felt like all of a sudden, I gained a gay following, it’s always been part of my world. I’m the only one, among my gay friends, that’s gone to civil rights marches,  pro-equality marches, participated in the No H8 Campaign. Then, I realized, I’m the only one there marching – and they’re gay  and not doing it. I need to find some straight people causes and make them go. 

You clearly have an affinity for your gays. Do you have any interesting stories about your gay fans? 
Just that they’re my favorite. To be honest, I don’t look at them as “gay fans,” they’re just fans to me. They are usually the most fun to talk to and that makes me happy. They tend to know a lot of lines from my movies. 

I read that you were even “gay bashed” when you were younger because you were mistaken for a man coming out of a gay club. 
That was when I was living in Portland. I had really short hair and was wearing a little 1940s style men’s suit. I was even smaller back then and I had on these little chunky shoes; I got clocked. This guy [that hit me] made the mistake of thinking the gay friends I was with were weak. Instead, they turned around beat the hell out of him. 

You mentioned in a previous interview that you felt uncomfortable getting married to your fiancé at the time since your gay friends couldn’t. Would you say that’s a stance you still stand by? 
Yes! It’s infuriating. My assistant, who’s a lesbian, is engaged to a woman. Right now, she can’t get married but she’s engaged until she can. That is completely and utterly absurd to me. I would feel disingenuous to get married and invite a bunch of people to my wedding that could not partake in that themselves.  

What you’re take on this upcoming presidential election?
I still want Hillary. It’s not so much that I’m pro Obama but that I’m anti Romney. I feel like besides gay issues, Romney’s such a woman hater. It’s amazing to me that somebody can be that bigoted towards 50% of the population. Even during the debate, somebody asked him what he do as far as pay equality and things like that and he said he’d make sure women could get home by five o’clock so that she could cook dinner for her family. Really?! That’s what we’re going to elect? And the fact that any woman would vote for him is shocking to me. I think so many rights will be denied if Romney wins. It’s a tough time for all of us.
